Hi friends! I hope your week is going well. This week, I’m sharing one of my favorite comfort recipes, stewed apples. It’s the kind of dish that makes your kitchen smell like fall, tastes like dessert, and is surprisingly versatile.
Whether you want a naturally sweet breakfast topper, a cozy side dish, or a quick gluten-free dessert, these stewed apples do the trick.
Ingredients:
Instructions:
How I Use Them:
- 1 medium apple (I like using Cosmic Crisp)
- ½ tbsp honey or maple syrup (optional, depending on sweetness)
- 1 tsp Ceylon cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- Splash of water (or apple juice for more flavor)
- Pinch of salt
- Optional: a squeeze of lemon juice to brighten it up
Instructions:
- Slice your apples into thin wedges or chunks.
- In a medium saucepan add the apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a splash of water. Stir everything together.
- Cover and simmer for about 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are soft and lightly saucy.
- Taste and adjust sweetness or spices as needed.
- Serve warm or store in the fridge to enjoy chilled later!
How I Use Them:
- Layered in yogurt parfaits
- Spooned over gluten-free oatmeal
- On top of gluten-free pancakes or waffles
- Served as a side with pork or roasted chicken
- Or honestly... eaten straight out of the pan!
I love these! I'm a sucker for anything with cinnamon. I really like the use suggestions too, I never thought about having them with yogurt or oatmeal. I've had them with pancakes and alone, I think they're fantastic.
